What is An ATX Motherboard?

I have asked a few questions about gaming computers and almost all of the answers bring up having an ATX motherboard. I don't even know if its a motherboard but the answers talk about it as a motherboard. Could someone just explain about this ATX thing please! Thanks in Advance :P
