How slow would asteroid/meteroid have to be and at what angle to leave only a very small crater or almost no..?

The answer is that the asteroid/meteoroid enters the atmosphere at such an angle that it would almost glance and exit the Earth again. It expends its energy in the atmosphere until it finally falls to earth. If it comes straight down it MUST be coming at a velocity of 25,000 mph (the Earth's escape velocity).
